DIY Coffee Body Scrub

This is one of my favorite body scrubs, because I LOVE the smell of coffee + it exfoliates my skin so good! It is seriously SO easy to make – hope you enjoy!



1-cup coffee grinds

1-cup raw brown sugar

½ -cup coconut oil

My in-laws always stock up Community Coffee Mardi-Gras King Cake for me because I’ve never been able to find any in Arkansas! I used it this time in the coffee scrub because it smells so amazing! It says it has hints of Cinnamon & Vanilla so I’m sure if you have regular coffee you could totally throw in vanilla + cinnamon and call it a day! This recipe is literally as easy as it sounds – mix all three ingredients together!

I do soften my coconut oil if it’s harder, (normally my house is chilly) BUT you don’t want your coconut oil to be hot because it could melt your raw sugar. So I warm it in the microwave, stir it around, + let it cool down before pouring in my mix. The reason you don’t want to melt your brown sugar is because that is what actually exfoliates your skin! Sometimes if I’m lazy + don’t have anything made I will just use plain raw brown sugar to exfoliate my body! The grittiness of the sugar works so well! Once everything is mixed together put it in a glass jar to store it! This specific batch made 4 4oz jars, perfect to make some for yourself + gifts or if you’re lazy like me + hate dirtying dishes I store some for later use!

My husband asked me why “exfoliating” is important. Instead of telling him, I googled it to give him a good answer so he doesn’t think I’m just making it up! Ha, does anyone else’s husband think they do unnecessary ‘beauty’ steps?! Anyways, this is what google said:

“Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them most effective. In short, a regular exfoliating (not daily though) routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy”

If your skin is normal-combination you can exfoliate 2-3 times a week. I have sensitive skin so I exfoliate every 7-10 days. Over-exfoliating can really hurt your skin so just play around with it. It’s a really good tool to incorporate in your routine, but don’t do it too often!
